Memoir Mixtapes is a mashup of the two things we all love to talk about: ourselves and music.
Music never fails to evoke real emotions connected to real memories, however fleeting, superficial, profound, blissful, or distressing those emotions might be.
We know most of our fellow human beings can relate, and we think sharing the stories we have, along with the songs that conjure them, is a great way to connect with each other while building some pretty groovy (or, at the very least, very “interesting”) playlists in the process.
So here’s what we want to do, with your help:
We’ll be posting calls (with a prompt to guide your selection) for submissions on a regular basis, curating collections of your personal essays and poetry, and creating the accompanying playlists, so you can share them with your friends and people around the world.
If you’re interested in contributing writing to our volumes (which we publish every two to three months), check out the current call for submissions and get to it!
If you want to contribute, but you’re not ready to commit to a full-length creative piece, consider sharing a song recommendation with our community. We run one song recommendation a day, Monday through Friday. If you like a little less structure than our standard Volumes or song recommendations, you might also think about sending us a mixtape—we run these on a (mostly) monthly basis.
Welcome to the party. We hope you stick around for a while.
Memoir Mixtapes is, at this time, a purely volunteer-run project; as such, we cannot pay our contributors (or even ourselves). We do what we do out of love of stories and music, and we rely on our contributors for the same.
