Douglas Recommends: “Shockwave City” by Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats

“Shockwave City” by Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats

“Shockwave City” by Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats is a mindbending psychedelic rock song from Wasteland, the band’s latest crushing record released October 12th. “Shockwave City” is darkly hypnotic, inviting, and sounds like it was made by musicians having fun.

The song kicks off with a thick, sludgy guitar, spooky vocals, and aggressive drum beat. Dissonant riffs, distorted instrumentation, and high speed jamming populate this track. Hard rock and heavy metal elements of The Stooges and Black Sabbath are all present, along with dread inducing lyrics that plunge listeners deep into the wasteland. “Into the darklands we fall/ To an emptiness there waiting/ They have their chains on us all/ Behind the walls of Shockwave City.”

The riff changes during the trippy instrumental jam in the middle, and a heavy, grooving bass enters the sonic onslaught. Slamming drums join the foray, and a guitar solo plays alongside aggressive riffing. Vocals come in sharp waves, repeating the lyrics “Shockwave City,” over and over again like a chant. The song started off as a sick head banger, but ends as a sick dance number.

Buy the ticket and go for the ride to Uncle Acid’s Wasteland through “Shockwave City.”
