Kevin Recommends: “Don’t Want to Know If You Are Lonely” by Hüsker Dü

Covers are fun and all, and sometimes they can even improve upon the original (see my previous recommendation for Crystal Castles’ version of “Not In Love,” or Lord Johnny Cash’s rendition of “Hurt” for a couple prime examples), but in this case the cover just doesn’t cut it.

Green Day gave it a valiant attempt when they did a cover of “Don’t Want to Know If You Are Lonely” by Hüsker Dü. It’s a pretty good cover, sure, but it’s not really inventive or unique in any way. It’s just like, “Oh, how cute. Green Day’s playing dress-up as their cool uncles.”

I’m sorry, but in this case you just can’t touch the raw angsty fury of the OG.

Get cool with Hüsker Dü my dudes.
