Jon recommends “Old Bone” by Wet (Jim-E Stack remix)

My self portrait is a rainbow, melting like wax in a frame that is too small. And today I fixed it.

See when I first made this self portrait, I thought "This is the only one I've ever made that actually makes sense." I still think that.

But I never cured the clay. So when the cracks started creeping in I thought "Well that's fun". Then they took over. "I'll get to it later," I thought. I got a couple clients this month that is great, then after I will fix that.
That was 3 months ago. How much time I have for others that I wouldn't find for myself.

I'm just an old bone in the back of the fridge.

It’s later now, so I fixed it. I wasn’t sure if it was still accurate. The frame is too small, sure, but before I made it old and ugly. Experience tells me otherwise, so let's spruce that up a bit. I know it's too small and I still need to discard it, but I can't pretend like it has held me for this long without being comfortable. Beautiful. Familiar.

I'll get to that later.

The cracks were smoothed, the textures added, the dirt rubbed in, and the background made even darker.

Now, the contrast hits me like this song does. Like I'm lost, and that's okay. At some point you get lost. Whether in an unfamiliar city, or staring down a fork in a path you've only seen in a dream.

The self-portrait sits – like always – over my shoulder. I can’t tell if it’s the angel or the devil. I'll get to that later, too.
