Sam Recommends: “Honey” by Mariah Carey

At this point, it’s pretty common knowledge that Mariah Carey is an insufferable diva who is super hard to work with.

But the world is willing to put up with her antics because she’s got a killer set of pipes, and her top hits of the 90s are bonafide bops that have passed the test of time with flying colors. A++.

There’s not one full Mariah album that I’d choose to sit through, but I do have an obsession with a handful of her songs.

“Fantasy” always lifts my spirits and launches me into a pleasant daydream.

“Always Be My Baby” compels me to sing along passionately (though terribly).

“Heartbreaker” and “Loverboy” make me stand up and try to dance.

But “Honey” is probably my all-time favorite Mariah song.

It’s the perfect soundtrack for that addicted kind of love that drives you crazy, makes you lose all your damn sense, and turns you into a fiend with a one-track mind intent on scoring some more of that honey from the person whose love is far beyond compare.
